In addition to his visit to the Kargil War Memorial, Prime Minister Modi will also highlight the Shinkun La Tunnel Project
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Kargil War Memorial on the Kargil Vijay Diwas on Friday (July 26, 2024) to pay homage to the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. This day marks a significant chapter in India's history, commemorating the victory of Indian armed forces in the 1999 Kargil War against Pakistan.

The Prime Minister’s visit is a tribute to the courage and valor of the soldiers who defended the nation’s sovereignty.

In a notable addition to the day's celebrations, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has announced that 29 Agniveervayu women will come together to form the first-ever all-women drill team. This groundbreaking event will take place at the India Gate complex in New Delhi, showcasing their precision, discipline, and unwavering spirit, and will run from 4:30 PM to 6:45 PM.

The IAF, in a statement, highlighted the significance of this performance, describing it as a symbol of strength, unity, and the breaking of new ground. The performance will be accompanied by the Air Force Band, adding to the event's grandeur.

The Kargil War, fought in 1999, is a testament to the bravery and strategic acumen of the Indian armed forces. As part of the silver jubilee celebrations, the Indian Air Force has been commemorating 'Kargil Vijay Diwas Rajat Jayanti' at Air Force Station Sarsawa from July 12-26. This extended celebration honors the soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.

On July 14, the IAF recalled its significant contribution to the Kargil War. During the conflict, the IAF flew thousands of strike missions and helicopter sorties to support the Indian Army's efforts. Operation Safed Sagar, the codename for the IAF's mission during the Kargil War, played a crucial role in turning the tide of the conflict in India's favor.

To commemorate this victory, a spectacular air show was organized at Air Force Station Sarsawa. The show featured displays by the Akash Ganga Team, as well as aerial performances by Jaguar, Su-30 MKI, and Rafale fighter aircraft. These displays served as a reminder of the IAF's might and its pivotal role in ensuring India's security.

In addition to his visit to the Kargil War Memorial, Prime Minister Modi will also highlight the Shinkun La Tunnel Project. This ambitious project consists of a 4.1 km long twin-tube tunnel, which will be constructed at an altitude of around 15,800 feet on the Nimu – Padum – Darcha Road. Once completed, it will be the highest tunnel in the world.

The Shinkun La Tunnel will ensure swift and efficient movement of armed forces and equipment, significantly bolstering India's strategic capabilities. Moreover, it is expected to foster economic and social development in the Ladakh region by providing all-weather connectivity to Leh. This project underscores the government's commitment to strengthening the nation's infrastructure and enhancing its defense preparedness.

The announcement of the first-ever all-women drill team by the IAF is a landmark moment in the history of the Indian armed forces. The 29 Agniveervayu women who will perform at India Gate on Kargil Vijay Diwas represent the growing inclusivity and empowerment of women in the military. Their performance is expected to inspire and awe audiences, demonstrating the evolving role of women in the defense sector.

In a social media post, the IAF invited the public to join in celebrating this groundbreaking moment. "Join us in celebrating this groundbreaking moment, be part of a performance that symbolizes strength, unity, and the breaking of new ground," read the IAF's post on X (formerly Twitter).

The 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas is a day of remembrance and celebration, honoring the valor of the Indian armed forces. Prime Minister Modi's visit to Kargil, the IAF's all-women drill team, and the ongoing celebrations at Air Force Station Sarsawa highlight the significance of this historic event. As India commemorates the silver jubilee of the Kargil victory, these events serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by the nation's soldiers and the continued efforts to strengthen its defense capabilities.
